Em Space
This project involved creating a logo for the Visual Media Department’s gallery space. The gallery primarily showcases work from visual media design students, while also providing a space for photography students and other department events.
The team chose the name Em Space as a reference to the “em,” a fundamental unit of measurement in typography. This connection to typography helps ground the gallery’s identity in design while remaining broad enough to represent different areas of visual media.
The logo utilizes a box frame that serves as both a canvas for creative work and a reference to the focus brackets found in photography. Although the gallery name is normally written with capitalization, I chose to use lowercase lettering in the logo to create a friendlier and more approachable identity.

Identity in Motion
This project also involved creating an intro-style motion graphic for Em Space to help communicate the purpose of the gallery. The animation cycles through phrases such as ‘em for design,’ ‘em for photography,’ and other creative disciplines and ideas that may be represented within the space.
The motion graphic expands on the logo’s identity by presenting Em Space as a flexible environment for different forms of visual work. By changing the word or phrase associated with “em,” the animation emphasizes that the gallery can serve as a space for design, photography, experimentation, collaboration, and other forms of creative expression.
